Artemisia

Poem I wrote about Artemisia Gentileschi.

Naive hope to passionately exist

Simplicity: my greatest burden

Longing… desperate happy longing

is a lovely pathway to ruin.

Diffusing myself into the open air

Into the sky and angry seas,

Just to look back at dry cracked earth. I no longer recognize me. Experience slipped softly into detriment

At the crossroad of purity and sin.

my body

maimed

twisting

bleeding

tormented painted skin.

I sing to revenge, my dearest friend,

my lover, and my peace,

Oh to be troubled by my greatest burden:

Hateful simplicity.
